Parnell underwent an MRI on Monday at Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, which showed an inflamed plica of the right elbow (soreness in tissue in the back of his elbow). The pitcher and team do not anticipate surgery, having heard from the medical staff that rest will be sufficient.
Neither Parnell nor pitching coach Dan Warthen believed that the injury was serious.
