Elbow inflammation ends Bobby Parnell's season

Bobby Parnell, who regularly throws in excess of 100 mph and who the Mets hope will become an important late-inning reliever, will not pitch again this season.

Parnell underwent an MRI on Monday at Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, which showed an inflamed plica of the right elbow (soreness in tissue in the back of his elbow). The pitcher and team do not anticipate surgery, having heard from the medical staff that rest will be sufficient.

Neither Parnell nor pitching coach Dan Warthen believed that the injury was serious.
