On the Road to Recovery

Patients who come to Hospital for Special Surgery for their care find an extraordinary team of physicians, nurses, physical therapists and other health professionals who help them on the road to recovery. It is a road that is often filled with twists and turns as they try to determine the cause of unusual symptoms, reconstruct a hip shattered in an accident, or help a child learn to walk who never has.

To the patients, such as the ones you will meet on the following pages, whose injuries or chronic illness bring them to HSS, these health professionals are their heroes. But it’s not simply because their diseases were cured, their pain alleviated, their mobility restored. It’s because the road to accomplishing their medical triumphs was paved with compassion and understanding that mended their spirits as well.
